Determinants of biochemical factors and microalbuminuria among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.

Article C Peer reviewed Observational

Key takeaways

This study compared 90 healthy people against people who had type 2 diabetes, some for less than five years and some for more than five. It measured fasting blood sugar, HbA1c (a three month blood sugar average), and cholesterol, then checked how those lined up with small amounts of protein in the urine, an early sign of kidney damage. Because nobody was treated or assigned to a group, this design can only show links between numbers. It cannot show that one thing causes the other.
